Discussion
Art dialog is always just as much directed outwards as it is inwards. Artists speak first and foremost with their audience, but they also require an internal dialog, critical interaction with creative minds from their own or other areas of art. In the past, attempts have been made to create such creative isles in the form of artists’ colonies. In conversation with Julia Bulk, the 19th Darmstädter Musikgespräch enquires what form such artistic dialogs could take in the 21st century, what prospects they offer for a better society and to what extent artists’ colonies are even possible in today’s networked, global world.
The directors of the three municipal music institutes – Wolfram Knauer (Jazzinstitut), Cord Meijering (Akademie für Tonkunst) and Thomas Schäfer (International Music Institut Darmstadt) – in conversation with Bremen-based author and curator Julia Bulk.
