Bridges enable the RhineMain metropolitan region to grow together: Under the working title ‘Region im Fluss’ (A Region in Flux), in 2014 and 2015 there are plans for new visions, in particular for previously neglected peripheral areas, sites that have hardly been developed in the neighboring cities Frankfurt-Offenbach and Mainz-Wiesbaden. In the ‘ASRM Lab 2014′ workshop in April 2014, architectural and urban design ideas and concepts were drawn up that have the potential to fill the wastelands between the cities with life on a long-term basis. Areas previously perceived as brownfields or divides will be given new impetus, the region will grow even more closely together, and a genuine ‘RhineMain belt’ will emerge.
At this Osthang Project symposium the results of the workshop will be reflected on and discussed, with the participation of the four cities involved. Findings from the project’s «Thinking Together» discourses will also be considered. Graeme Russell, curator of the 2015 ASRM in Frankfurt, Offenbach and Wiesbaden, will host the event.
