Guest lecture Peter Fattinger (Vienna) & Inari Virkkala (Helsinki)
«Design & Build. Or: The role of the architect.»
Friday, July 18 | 8 p.m.
Osthang campus: hall
Peter Fattinger is one of the leading actors in the ‘design & build’ movement. He has been teaching at Vienna University of Technology since 2000, where his courses gave hundreds of students the chance to experience an actual construction process – both in Austria and all around the world.
Together with Veronika Orso, Peter Fattinger runs an office, «fattinger orso architektur», that works in the intersection of architecture, arts and design. One of their well-known projects is the ‘Yellow House’ in Linz, built for the Culture Capital Linz in 2009.
Fattinger’s work is reflected with a recently completed project of building a youth center in Cambodia, also originating to a university course. With this building the young team of Komitu Architects was able to arouse local interest in building with bamboo. Besides being a member of Komitu Architects, Finnish architect Inari Virkkala will share her experiences of working with ‘Architecture for Humanity’, ‘Building Trust International’ and ‘Architecture Sans Frontières International’.
The presentations will be held in English.
