Culture as a state of emergency
Saturday, August 02 – Sunday, August 10
Karolinenplatz, Darmstadt
Installation
» a guest event by das blumen e. V.
A bunker built in the 1960s for a nuclear emergency is being stripped of its anonymity and during the RhineMain Summer of Architecture 2014 will serve as a cultural refuge.
Serving no purpose, the bunker is an example of unused (urban) spaces that have fallen into oblivion. das blumen e. V., with the support of the local transport company HEAG, will make the shelter beneath Karolinenplatz in Darmstadt accessible to the public; there will be a bar, readings, and guided tours.
The aim is to see how the place as a bridgehead underscores the Osthang-Karolinenplatz axis via Erich Ollenhauer Promenade.
